July 17, 2017: Take some jelly, take some fish, put it in a sandwich deeelish.

HELLO Everyone!

This was quite the week! It was pretty crazy and went by super fast. So on Monday, I visited one of my old areas, Ilheus.  It was super awesome. I love those people there. So that was cool. Then Monday night we went to Itabuna for a Zone Conference. We bought some pizza that night and I met up with Elder Castlemain again. We all slept in the same house and just stayed up talking forever. haha It was a good time.

On Tuesday we had the zone conference. It was really good. We received a lot of good training. It was pretty long though. It went from 8-3! haha We lost our bus and the only other bus to Valença was at 11:00 pm. SO we had to wait a while and we weren´t able to work that day which was a bummer.

Then Wednesday and Thursday were pretty normal. We had some good lessons. We talked to Ednaldo and Mayana more about Baptism and what it is and they committed to be baptized this Saturday. We have planned it to be at 5:00 pm. So that will be awesome!

ON Friday we had to go up to Guaibim (the beach place) to clean everything up and get things ready for the baptism of two little girls. (They are from the other area) So we were up there all day. When we came back we took a shower and visited Ednaldo and Mayana. We taught them about Prophets and Thomas S Monson. We invited them to check out the church site and watch the videos that they have on it.

THEN on Saturday, we went up to Guaibim again. haha Because it was the baptism. It was pretty cool. It was very different having the baptism in the ocean. It was pretty crazy and wasn´t as spiritual. But it was still fun. Then we ate lunch their and played around a little on the beach. Unfortunately, after lunch when we went out there, it was really hot and I didn´t want to stay out there. But I put my feet in the water to cool them...AND RIGHT WHEN I TOUCHED THE WATER, my foot started to sting really bad. I thought that I had been cut by something and the salt water was just stinging me. SO I jumped out of the water and saw a Jellyfish wrapped around my foot!!! I got my foot out and it was hurting sooooo bad. SO I walked back to the member´s house. I told one of the guys there about the jellyfish and he told me to hurry into the bathroom to pee on my foot and scrub it with my hand!

My foot after being stung by a Jellyfish:)
I DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS GUYS.... So yeah. I peed on my foot. It was a blast. It still hurt though. SO I just layed down and slept for a little bit. When I woke up it was much better. I sent I picture of it when I woke up. But, before peeing on it, it was a lot more swollen. hahaha It was quite the experience.

Did a quick drawing for Pday!
Sunday was also good. Ednaldo and Mayana came again. After the meeting, I went to chat with them. They told me they had to tell me something... So it turns out that Mayana went to look on the church site and a bunch of anti mormon stuff popped up. So they read quite a bit of stuff and have a lot of questions. But it is good that they came to us first. So we will go there tomorrow to talk to them about it all. She said that she won´t give up though. She just is a little confused. So pray for them that everything may go according to the Lord´s plan. I know the Lord is guiding this work and I think it is so incredible that He uses such imperfect servants to perform this Work. I am so thankful that He has Perfect Patience for each one of us and is always there to help us out. I love you all! Don´t forget to Remember him in your day-to-day lives!

July 10, 2017: Greetings from Ilheus

Unfortunately I don't have much time today. We got permission from President Bangerter and got to visit Ilheus again. SO that is awesome. I´m able to see a lot of good old friends that I made here. Then tomorrow we have a zone conference and that should be great.

We had a big activity/party at the church. It was fun! We did the decorations. It was basically all the ideas of my companion. He is a party planner.... hehe So yeah we spent basically the whole week doing that stuff. But luckily it is over. Thank heavens.  The  party was fun but I like teaching people much more.

Let´s see,  Ednaldo and Mayana went to church again. This time we didn´t go to their house to search for them. So it was stressful. I didn´t know if they were gonna show up. They showed up like 25 minutes late, but they made it!! So awesome. I love their family so much. They asked for more time so they aren´t getting baptized this Saturday so we are gonna move the date for the next week! haha

But I have had a great week here! I have learned a lot of really important life lessons. So I am growing as a person and everything. SO that is fun. I love the mission, I love the work. It is so great here. I love you all! Have an amazing week!!

July 3, 2017: Week of Crazies!

Greetings unto all,

My beloved brothers and sister, and friends and family.... and parents... collegues... fellow ward members,

This was a great week here in Valença. I am loving it here. We have done a lot of good work. We have gone on splits with the young men in the group to be able to visit more people and get to know their friends. SO the work is going really well!

So this week I have learned of my new talent that I have.... For some reason all the crazy people like me in this city. Crazy in terms of literally mad.... like they can´t function as a normal citizen. hahaha They don´t really have places for those people. So they generally wander around on the road. haha So they all stopped me and kissed my hand and conversed with me about different things. Really strange. But it was funny. It is some good entertainment throughout the week.

Got the Elders to make French Toast. They thought it was too much sugar!

So we had some good progress with Ednaldo and Mayana. They are loving our visits and they visited the church on sunday!!! Everything went well and they were really impressed with how different our church is than all other churches. They said they really felt different. The funny thing is that a mess up happened while the other elders were preparing the sacrament and they FORGOT to put the water in the little cups in the tray. hahahah So when they went to bless the sacrament they had to grab a cup of water to fill it up quickly. It was a little embarrassing. haha But it´s all good. Everything worked out.

We have talked more about baptism with Ednaldo and Mayana and they committed to be baptized on the 15th of July. They are a little worried though. Ednaldo humbly told us that he loves our visit but Mayana and him were talking about tithing. He said that he has a lot of debts and things to pay off and at the moment they are barely making it. So he said they wouldn´t be able to pay tithing. I wasn´t sure what to say. But I bore my testimony that God will pour down blessings upon us as we faithfully keep the commandments and I invited them to pray for guidance and help. SO pray for them! Hopefully all will work out and they will be baptized on the 15th.

Anyways that pretty much sums up the week for me! I love you all!! Have an amazing peaceful week.

June 26, 2017: Pretty Slow

If you couldn´t tell by the full-caps subject line, this week was pretty slow. haha

I had a couple health issues going on. So I couldn´t work as much. But I am getting a lot better so don´t worry! Also, The last three days of the week was a huge Brasillian holiday here. It is called São João. It is commemorating Jogn the baptist. But, nobody really knows that. It is just a huge party weekend. The whole city shut down. Everyone just listens to suuuper loud music in the road and drinks beer. haha Pretty great. So during the night we didn´t have much success in the work. Everyone had huge parties or had travelled to a different city for the holiday.

We had a good time though. We ate lasagna one day! Also, I learned how to make really good rice. So I will be able to make that when I get home. Now I just need to figure out the beans.... hahah

But, I am loving it out here in the mission. Sorry that this week was pretty lame. I have just been a little under the weather, and would rather not get into the details. haha I love you all! Have a great week!

June 20, 2017: Uncle Josh

Hi everyone! Well this is going to be super super super short. hehe

So I went to go get my visa renewed. And..... I am still legal here. haha So that´s good. I had to travel to Salvador this weekend and get all that figured out. It was really fun though. I had a great time and got to see Elder Vander Werff and Elder Castlemain again! It´s the first time that we have been all together since the first day in the mission field! AND... I forgot to take a picture. haha DANG IT. It´s all good though. And now I gotta catch up to visit all the people that I couldn´t visit.

On Sunday a returned missionary came to Valença because he served there. He brought his violin and I accompanied him on the piano. haha He played on all the hymns and he played very well. It was awesome. The spirit was super strong.

I got a new companion last week. He is a great guy. We are getting along just fine and doing good work here in Valença. It is much better and easier to work.  Ednaldo´s surgery didn´t go as planned. So please pray for him. Hopefully he gets better soon to get out of all that pain. He hasn´t been able to come to church yet.

So that is the week boys and girls. I will write more next week.

PS  I can´t believe that I am an uncle!! That is so crazy. ahhaa I can't believe Jordan is a father!

June 12, 2017: Interesting Stuff

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is doing great. This week was great here in the fair city of Valença. We had many cool experiences this week.

Well, the transfers came through. My comp will leave and my new comp will be Elder R Santos. I already served in the same district as him. I will send a pic of him later. A lot of people think he is weird and tease him. So I will try to be as nice as possible and help him out. He is a cool guy. Just a little different.

So we had a service project this week with a member. We helped him move houses to the house next door. It was really nasty though. He was living in a very poor house, but it also seemed as though he hasn´t cleaned his house for a few years. We had to pull out a lot of rotting wood full of rat poop. The house was full of dust and had a strong smell of urine. Very gross. Anyways that took a solid 4 hours of work. I bruised my bicep when I was carrying the fridge. I think it is because I am so ripped. My skin just couldn´t control it. Unfortunately it turned into a big yellow mark on my arm. It looks like I have leprosy. Just kiddin.

So after the Service project, my companion got sick. So we didn´t work as hard as usual. Then, the next day, all the rest of us got sick. So we have been sick for the past week. I think it was because all the nasty dust in that house. We are getting better though.

Other good news...we met with Igor and marked his baptismal date for the 24th of June! He is super excited. He wants to make sure he receives an answer first though. Also, we met with Ednaldo and Maiana. We taught them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My companion and I were super sick. We were sniffing the whole time. But, we committed them to baptism as well. They are very excited and eagerly accepted. So, they will be baptized on the 1st of July. Ednaldo also is going in for surgery tomorrow so be sure to pray for him to heal up fast! They are the coolest family. He wants me to get a Whatsup (an app that is like the messenger app on the iphone) to share art with one another when I get home. haha I am so happy I found a fellow artist. Send your prayers his way so that all can go well!

Happy Birthday Abby!
I have been studying in the Book of Mormon. In my reading, I studied 2 Nephi 2. It was really cool. It was a very interesting chapter. I invite all of you to read that. Nephi talks about Self-Mastery. Self-Mastery is learning how to master the temptations of the Natural Man. Very interesting. So give that a study this week and let me know what you all think! Love you all!

June 5, 2017: Well Golly Gee Mister

This was a great week! I have had a lot of fun. One cool thing that is happening right now is that I have the opportunity to talk with an American! I was talking in english with him and everything. SO cool. haha He is a writer and is living on an island closeby. haha

She has a crush on me haha!

So this week had a couple of cool stuff. We went to a member´s house in a different city to help him clean out his water storage and motel. He lives right on the beach. So that was cool to see. And sad too... hahahaha That was quite the experience though! It was a tough clean! haha The storage is made out of fiber... I was leaning against it for a super long time and I got tiny little artificial hairs all over my body. It was itching for the whole rest of the day!

So our best investigators that we have right now are Ednaldo and Maiana. They are a married couple and have two kids. haha We have had amazing experiences teaching them. Every single time we teach them, the spirit is super powerful. We taught the Book of Mormon to them and they started crying. Also, Maiana said she received her answer to her prayer. She prayed on Sunday night to know if this was all true. The next day, on Monday, she picked up the Joseph Smith pamphlet to read it. Right when she picked it up, we passed by her work. I don´t even know where she works. hahah Definitely wasn´t planned. They are really great. The only problem that has came up is Ednaldo got super sick. He can´t really walk around and doesn´t sleep. He will go in for surgery this week I think. So pray for him that his health may improve!

We also had a cool experience on Sunday. In the earlier part of the week, we were trying to get all our investigators to go to church. But, they couldn´t. I was worried that we wouldn't have any investigators come to church with us. On Saturday, I prayed for help. We planned and left for the day. We had a few lessons fall through and my companion suggested that we visit a man that we taught a while ago. We went there and taught him! It was great. When we invited him to church he said that of course he would go! We were super excited. The next morning, we left early and went to his house to walk with him to church. After 20 minutes of walking we got there, and he wasn´t there. That was rough. I was sad and confused. But, I knew that God helped us the day before. I was hoping and hoping that he would still show up. During the testimony meeting, out of nowhere he just walked into the meeting and sat down! I couldn´t stop smiling. haha It was so great.

I have been studying a lot about Jesus Christ and his teaching that he gave us. Especially the acts that he did in the last week of his mortal life. I am amazed at His love and dilligence. I know that he lives. His presence is in all things. His light is the power that created all things.

May 29, 2017: Crazy Week

SO my friends and family.

I am loving it out here in the city of Valença. It is going great. I am learning many new things. The food is not too bad anymore. In fact, I have made french toast quite a bit this week. I just gotta find some syrup to put on it. haha But it is great.

This week was definitely an adventure. We had a great lesson last Monday. They loved it. We will teach them again tonight. The first part of the week was pretty normal. One of the coolest things is teaching seminary. This last week was my first time teaching. I decided to teach because I was fed up with the way two of the missionaries taught seminary. They didn´t prepare anything and nobody learned anything. So I taught and we learned about John 4. It was really great. I taught them about what I learned in Jesus the Christ in relation to that time period and the relationships between the Jews and Samaritans. They really enjoyed the lesson and so did I. So I might do that more often.

Saturday we had quite the experience. Elder De Melo (the District Leader) and I had to go to a neighborring city and hour away called Ituberá. It´s a cool place. So we took a bus over there in the morning. There are quite a few members over there and they had friends they wanted us to teach. SO we ate lunch there and after we taught a lesson to 10 people!! hahah It was crazy but it went very well. I drew out the lesson in the way our mission president taught us and it held their attention very well. We taught the first two lessons together because it is tough to go over there. I needed to go pee before we even started the lesson. Incidently, I drank a liter of soda the night before and hadn´t emptied it out. SO this lesson was about 2 hours long... Near the end of the lesson I was ready to EXPLODE. I literally thought that I would pee my pants. I have never felt that way before. I was in so much pain and worry that I was sweating.... We taught the lesson with a member and he wouldn´t stop talking! Finally they passed it over to me to bear my testimony and invite the people to come to church. I just said "I know the things we taught are true, in the name of Jesus Christ amen. Sister, I have a question, can I use your bathroom?" hahahaha So I went and luckily did not have an accident. I peed for like 2 minutes straight. It was a very crazy experience. The lesson went very well though. The spirit was very strong. haha
We stayed for dinner at a different member´s house and at 7:00 we took the bus home.

Me and Elder De Melo
ALSO, We had a great experience on Sunday. We taught the first lesson to a family that we contacted earlier in the week. We taught the family and the spirit was very strong. At the end of the lesson, nobody wanted to move. They accepted to be baptized. I talked to them about the importance of praying to receive an answer. The man told us that he has had visits from churches before. But, we have something different. He told us that because of this feeling, he knows that it is true. I explained that he was feeling the Holy Ghost. They loved the lesson. It was such a cool experience how God helped us find and teach these elect people. I know that depending on God in His work is crucial. We must be worthy, follow the rules, dilligently seek, and the Lord will provide.  This family was so cool. The guy is an artist! He does a lot of oil painting. So we immediately became friends. haha but that is how we broke the ice. Just talking about art.

ANYWHO, this week was great. The SPIRIT is so real. I love feeling that when I teach. It is so amazing. I love this work. I know that it is very important and that it is the best thing I have done in my life. I love you all!

May 22, 2017: Josenilton

Hey everyone, this week was another great week! It was quite the adventure. Lets see... so nothing super crazy happened. BUT, we did go to zone conference in Itabuna. We had to take a 3-4hr bus ride on Wednesday night to get there. We arrived at 2 in the morning in Itabuna. We slept over at one of the missionary´s houses. Other Elders were already sleeping over there. So... they didn´t have any more beds. Lucky I slept on a broken bed. I should´ve taken a pic of it. But it was sagging into the box spring. It wasn´t very comfortable. I didn´t fit on the bed either. But, it worked. I slept. haha

SO the next morning we woke up, got ready, and went to the conference. It was a great meeting. It was really great to be able to see Elder Prado, Elder Cuevas, and Elder Castlemain there. I love those guys. They taught a lot of great stuff at the training. We were able to learn a lot and learn what we needed to do better to help our area.

So this week is going to be a great week of work. That was the biggest highlight of the week. We ended up getting back in Valença at 3 in the morning. We ended up walking through the rain with boxes of Book of Mormons in our arms. It was scary because a homeless guy started following right behind us asking for money. We kept telling him no but he didn´t stop following us. It was weird. But, we got home safely.

I also tried Acarajé. It is a famous food from this area of Brasil. It is kinda like a baked potato. It really wasn´t as good as they say...

Another cool experience was teaching Primary again. SO these kids are sooooo CRAZY. It is just two kids but they are the roudiest kids I have ever met!  But, my mother gave me the idea to use a puppet to teach them. So this week I did. They loved it. haha I named the puppet Josenilton. It is a pretty normal name here. They paid attention and laughed and it was great. I think I might make a Josenilton fan club. haha!

This is Elder De Melo the District Leader. He is a weird guy. But, I like him a lot. He has a crush on CC and wants her email haha
I have been studying a lot this week about the Gifts of the Spirit. It is really amazing to me that we have the power to achieve these Gifts through diligent seeking. I feel as though this can be very important in our lives. To seek to develope our spiritual attributes. I know that we will have more power as a missionary because through this we will be more aware of our spiritual man and the importance of everything in an eternal perspective. To know more about it read Moroni 10 and D&C 46. I love you all. Have an amazing week!

Happy Birthday Jordan!

May 15, 2017: BLUURB

Well I hope you all had some good sleep. Yesterday was great. It was a great experience to see you guys. I am glad that everyone is doing so great.

Family Photo:)
So I don´t have much that I want to say about this week.... because of the skype. But I will do my best to update yáll. (haha the keyboard doesn´t let me type y all)

So Monday was a great day. We were able to teach a guy named Marcos. He is super busy but hopefully we will be able to teach him again. We also played some basketball with some members and their friends. It was pretty fun. They don´t really know how to play basketball... So they just foul and airball. haha But, that´s all good. They thought I was a professional basketball player. It was quite the experience.

Throughout the week we had a lot of good work. We are working on finding new families. We found a great family that lives right next to us. Their house has a cake selling shop at the front. I went and bought a cake there (because I felt like it) and we did a contact with them and marked a visit. We visited them on Thursday and taught the first lesson. It went very very well. The people loved it. They are an elect family. We are going back to teach them tonight. Super excited. Maybe I will buy another cake too... So that family was definitely the best part of the work. It was great to see how God is supporting us here on the mission.

So things are going better with my companion. He likes to talk with one of the Elders that lives with us. So he generally is just with the other dude. Which can be frustrating when I want to plan and stuff. But, we are getting it all worked out.  I am getting used to the food. It´s pretty normal now. It´s not the greatest food ever. But, it´s not as bad as I first thought.

So, this week I have been studying more about Joseph Smith. I had been listening to the Joseph Smith Papers Podcast. It is very amazing to learn about his life and hear more details about everything. It has really strengthened my testimony that he was a prophet of God. That he was a normal man, raised up by God to serve in this great calling. It is amazing at all the miracles that happened in his life and the life of his family.

Anyways, I love you all. Have a great week filled with spiritual experiences.

I found a cool quote, "Spiritual Light rarely comes to those who merely sit in darkness waiting for someone to flip a switch" -Dieter F Uchtdorf

Love you guys,

May 8, 2017: I Should've applied "The Giver" in my life...

I should´ve applied the Giver in my life... or the Hunger Games, or Divergent. Basically the fact that Utopias don´t exist. haha

Valenca at Night

So I was super excited to go to this new area in Valenca. I hear so many awesome things about it. But, it wasn´t what I was expecting... haha It´s still good though I am still loving life. My companion is Elder Lucas. He is a cool guy. He was in the army. So he´s a little idk how to explain it. But he doesn´t want to show weakness. He is very head strong in things. But President Bangerter wants me to help teach him and show him what I learned with Elder Prado. But it will be good. haha

The house is nice so thats good. We just eat rice and corn meal with cut up sausage in it for lunch every day. We usually don´t eat anything for dinner. Lunch we eat some bread. So I think I might get a little skinnier here... hahaha

The place here is a group. We met for church in our house.  Its 4 floors.  The bottom two are the church and the classrooms.  We had 12 people at church on Sunday so it´s struggling to grow and be strong. But we are working our hardest to help it out. When I got here the atmosphere that the other elders put off was that this area sucks and that they are just counting the days until they leave. But I want to help this place be better. If they are happy the spirit will be stronger and they will want to work more.

SO this week I don´t have much to report. I left on the ferry boat on Tuesday to my new area. I had to drag three suitcases tied together with my shoulderbag.. It didn´t really work out. So in the end some Brazillians helped me out. I then took a 3 hour bus ride and then I arrived. When I got there, nobody was there. The elder that dropped me off at the ferry boat forgot to call for my companion to tell him when I was coming. So I waited there for 3 and a half hours. Luckily, a member sells popcorn at the bus station so he helped me get to the house and meet my comps. It was an adventure!!

The rest of the week we have just been doing a lot of finding. The teaching group is really small here so we need to help it grow. So that was pretty much it guys. Here is a cool experience I had...
This week I have been praying to find the elects of God. We had a cool experience in which God placed a man in our path. I had a prayer in my heart that whole day. While walking to a bairro in our area, a man called from us from behind. We stopped and began to talk with him. He told us that he is a member from Salvador, he served a mission and that he wants us to teach his cousin that lives in our area. It was really amazing that out of nowhere, I received an answer to my prayer. We have marked to visit this family on Tuesday. It was a very humbling experience for me that God is controlling this work and helping us every step of the way.
(Wow I love copy and paste... Saves so much time and work...)

Anyways, I love you guys. Hope you are loving life. I can´t wait to see you on Sunday!

May 1, 2017: Eight Meses

SO Everybody how is it going?

TRANSFERS has happened this week. So that is exciting. I will be going to Valença. My companion will be Elder Lucas. I heard that Valença is a great place. I have been wanting to go there for a long time. It has a milkshake place called Mr. Shake. It sounds so good. So I am excited to try that! The area has a little group. I will do what I can to help it turn into a branch. So I am very excited to go there. It´ll be awesome. I will leave tonight or tomorrow morning. I have to pack up my bags though...

8 months out on the mission!
Honestly, I am pretty sad to leave this area. It is a great place. I have loved having Elder Prado as my companion. He is my favorite comp so far. We have a really similar humor so it just worked well. We never got bugged at each other or anything. It was a lot of fun. But, this next transfer will be great as well!

Feeding Monkeys!

I don´t have too much time to talk today... but this was a great last week. We had some really great lessons. The spirit was very strong. I was teaching the restoration. While I was teaching there was a ton of little kids in the room. I was worried that nobody was able to hear or pay much attention. I kept teaching though. The kids just got louder as I got closer to the first vision part. But, as I began to say the words ,"eu vi um pilar de luz, acima de minha cabeça...." The whole room went quiet. It was the strangest thing. The craziest kids just stopped talking. After I finished the account, they started talking again. It was a really humbling moment.

Sculpture I am working on...
We found an elect family. We found this family through contacting a contact that Elder Prado did. It was so awesome. Elder Prado opened by asking two deep questions. He asked what they loved most, and what they feared most in life. They responded and their responses had many connections with the Plan of Salvation. We felt that we needed to teach the Plan of Salvation before the Restoration. We taught it and the Spirit was present and very strong. The investigators had their eyes glued to us as we were teaching. They loved the lesson and had many great questions as well. We left their house grinning. The next day we met to make sure they would go to church. They said they still would and that they had searched up and watched Joseph Smith: A Prophet of the Restoration. They loved it and felt very similar to Joseph Smith. They came to church on Sunday and were well-integrated in the ward. The investigators commented about their experience during Gospel Principles. The members became very excited. They started teaching our investigators the entire first lesson. Afterwards, a few members told us they wanted to do visits with us and that they especially wanted to visit that family. It was very cool to see how excited the members were by just a small conversation with the investigators. It is exciting to watch members become more involved in missionary work. Through this experience, my testimony really grew about the importance of utilizing the members in the work. It showed me how to excite the members so that they can become more powerful missionaries as well.

Anyways That was it for this week. Also, I watched the Cokeville Miracle. I invite all of you to watch that movie. It is very powerful.

Love you all!

April 24, 2017: Murphy's Law

This was a great week... So let´s just get right to it.

The first part of the week, the assistants were gone. They were on splits with Elders in other areas. So Elder Roberto and I stuck together and visited people. It was just dandy.

Live long and prosper...
Last P-day we went to a lighthouse!

The Highlight of the week was Friday. Elder Costa from the seventy came over. He is really cool. He gave a training for us. All the missionaries from the city went there. AND we got really good lunch too! But it was really cool to hear from him. He was really really funny. He said that our mission finds the most new investigators in Brasil... but we have to baptize better. But he showed us a lot of things and gave us some animo para o trabalho. He shared his testimony. It was very powerful. It´s so cool how he was converted to the gospel too. He said that he has the knowledge that Jesus lives. It isn´t just a testimony. Also he said the same about Joseph Smith being a prophet.
My companion Elder Prado!
I really like my companion, He is my favorite!
SO the best part was what happened after the meeting. The assistants had to go to the office with Elder Costa and President so they left super fast. They forgot to give us one of the phones too. Also, I didn´t have any cash with me. So that was bad. We had to take a bus back to Brotas. I ended up getting money from a missionary. We got on the bus. But, the problem was that we didn´t know where we needed to get off... yeah, it was bad! Right when we get on the bus we also got hit with a GIGANTIC sleep wave. Elder Roberto sat in front of me and within 5 minutes he was already out cold. SO I knew... that it was all up to ME. I was so close to falling asleep. I kept nodding off. It was super tough! haha But I guess I fell asleep a little. I woke up and the area looked familiar. I thought we needed to get off. I told Elder R and he checked with the bus guy and the dude said it was the place. So we got off the bus.

When we get off the bus, we realized immediately that it wasn't the place. So that was bad. We had no more money.. So we decided to walk and follow the direction in which the bus went. We were walking for a while. Then it started to rain... just great. I didn't have an umbrella. Elder R did though. We open it, and within 20 seconds the umbrella broke... Just greater... haha So we kept walking, wet, in our suit coats, in the rain. After about an hour of walking along the freeway, I look at the sign and it said Itapuã. Which is where we started from... So we just started laughing.. almost crying. But laughing. We said another prayer for direction and asked someone for directions to Brotas. He told us it was super far away. That we needed to take a few buses just to get there. He told us that we can´t make it on feet. But we just started walking. An hour into the way, Elder R stops and was freaking out. He looked through his suit coat and realized that his camera had fallen out of it while we were walking. We kept going though, just singing hymns. We finally got home. After asking a few more people for directions. It took us 3 hours and 45 minutes of walking along the freeway.. Barril. But honestly it was pretty fun. We were happy.

I found a cool soda brand...
When we got home we just collapsed on the floor. After 5 minutes Elder R asked if I wanted to go do one last visit of the night. It was 8:30. I will admit that I didn´t want to. I was very tired. But we went and visited one of my investigators that lived close. Her name is Edna. We gave her a gigantic triple a week ago before she left on a trip. She was back and had read the ENTIRE thing. IN ONE WEEK! She loved it. It was really cool to talk to her about that.

Anyways that was it for this week. I love you guys! Hope you are doing great!

April 17, 2017: Happy Easter

Well I hope you guys had the week of your lives. I definitely did. haha

SOOOOO I had a pretty sweet birthday on Monday. I had a great time. After writing you guys, we went and ate some food. Then we went home and cleaned out the fridge. Super awesome. Then we walked to the office and  hung out with Elder Castlemain. He is awesome. He was in the CTM with me. We played some card games and I bought Ice cream. Later, I went with my comp and we taught some people. When we got home we ordered some SUPER good pizza. The crust is stuffed with cheese. AND it´s  the first pizza that had pepporoni! I have missed that. Now I just gotta find pizza with tomato sauce. It´s a real tough battle.

Birthday Pizza!
(I just want to let everyone know that I tried to tab my paragraphs and format this in a professional way. Unfortunately, It doesn´t work... haha)

So this week was filled with a lot of walking. We walked to Polemica every day. It is a Bairro (neighborhood) in our area. It is 30-40 minutes away though. So it kinda sucks. We have been working on an idea to help our ward be more active with the missionaries, and to give more referrals. My companion had me make some posters for the ideas. They turned out pretty sweet. I will have to take a picture when we print them. This has been our main focus this week.

The idea is to do a game with the members. When members bring nonmembers to sacrament or give referrals or teach with the missionaries they get ´points´. (I'm sure you are smiling right now mom!). The person with the most points after a time period will get a prize. The bishop liked the idea and we are working to have it very organized. We are hoping this will help the members share the gospel more.

So on Sunday night we had a baptism. It was very cool. Our investigator Paulo Cesar was baptized. He was so excited to be baptized. We told him that we would pick him up at 5. We went with a member who had a car to pick him up around 5:20. But, he wasn´t there..... SO we headed back to the church and found him there greeting everyone for his baptism. He said that right when it was 5:00, he didnt want to wait so he just got a ride with his friend. It was really cool though. He loves the Book of Mormon. It was such a great opportunity to teach him.

Well that was it for this week. This week was really interesting though. It was easter. All the people in Brasil are religious. They believe in God. On Good Friday they don´t have work. EVERYONE is out drinking and partying in the road. It is very sad. It was sad that they were not focusing on Jesus Christ. The very day that Jesus Christ was crucified, all the "Firm believers" were drinking and paryting. Many of the men were dressed in women´s clothing. I imagine that this is how it was in Jesus Christ´s time. There are people who don´t let themselves believe or feel the spirit because their life and party is more important. I hope that we can all take the time each day to search and ponder about all Jesus has done and is doing for us.

I had a spiritual experience while I was on splits with Elder Roberto. We went to an inactive visit. The Irmã (sister) started off telling us that she already knew everything and that she didn´t have the desire to go to church. I remembered about imagining the people in white. So while I taught her I imagined her as a daughter of God, all in white. I felt the Love of God for her and felt that we needed to still teach about Joseph Smith. We taught the first lesson. I taught about Joseph Smith and the First Vision. The Spirit was very strong. After I recited Joseph´s words and bore my testimony, she replied, "Isso é lindo" (this is beautiful). It was very cool to see her countenance change as she felt the Spirit. I would not have been able to teach with that power of the Spirit without picturing her in white. It truly changed the lesson and my focus on the lesson.

I love you all!
